Best Start Inclusion Health Visitor

This is a new post created to support the government Best Start strategy with a focus on supporting families who find the health visiting service hard to access and those with children who have SEND or emerging SEND needs. The post will be based within the health visiting team but will also require close working with staff within the family hub. 

The health Visiting service is provided by Achieving for Children, which is a social enterprise company also responsible for the provision of early help and social care services across RBWM. The health visiting team work out of the family hubs and have positive working relationships with our colleagues in the family hub and social care. 

We offer corporate membership as a benefit with the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) to all our Health Visitors for professional support and evidence-based publications. Achieving for Children as an organisation has a strong ethos for staff training and development and staff wellbeing is a high priority. There are options for flexible working within the needs of the service. 

The salary for these roles are equivalent to NHS Band 6.

About the role

The Best Start Inclusion Health Visitor plays a pivotal role in championing equitable access to health services for families with children aged 0-5 years and ensuring that they receive the support needed to reach a good level of development by the end of reception. 

The postholder will:

  • Provide expert guidance, support and strategic input to the wider health visiting team in relation to SEND and underserved communities. 
  • Line manager and provide supervision for the Targeted Support Nursery Nurses.
  • Undertake direct work with families holding a small targeted caseload.
  • Work collaboratively with family hub, health and education to build positive relationships with community leaders.

About you

You will bring passion for supporting children and seeing them reach their potential, you will also:

  • Be educated to a degree level with a relevant professional qualification as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. RGN/RMH/RMW/ Dip HE (Child/adult/Learning disabilities) and Nursing and Midwifery Council membership.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of child development and proven experience supporting children with complex SEND needs.
  • Demonstrate experience working with underserved children and families, with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate interventions that deliver positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate experience in building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families, advocating on behalf of our service users.
  • Hold a driving licence and have use of a vehicle to travel effectively to undertake work.
