Information Governance Support Assistant

The postholder plays a crucial role in ensuring the organisation complies with data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Key responsibilities include acting as the primary point of contact for public enquiries, independently managing the full lifecycle of straightforward Subject Access Requests drafting Freedom of Information responses, and processing third-party disclosures such as police and court requests. Additionally, the role involves keeping the team running smoothly through essential administrative duties, such as triaging mailboxes, validating requester identification, and maintaining records management systems. The ideal candidate will combine strong organisational, digital, and communication skills with a foundational understanding of confidentiality and security principles, alongside a genuine passion for supporting the organisation's mission to help children and young people live safe, happy, and successful lives.

About the role

Are you passionate about helping children and young people live safe, happy, healthy, and successful lives?

At Achieving for Children, we are looking for a dedicated and organised Information Governance Support Assistant to join our Information Governance Team. In this vital role, you will help us ensure that our data practices are compliant, secure, and running smoothly so that we can continue to deliver excellent outcomes for families.

As the welcoming first point of contact for public enquiries, you will be at the heart of our Information Governance operations. Your day-to-day work will be dynamic and impactful, as you help the team maintain compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Independently managing the full lifecycle of straightforward Subject Access Requests (SARs), from collating data to applying redactions and exemptions.
  • Supporting our Information Governance Officers by reviewing redactions on more complex SARs.
  • Coordinating and drafting Freedom of Information (FOI) responses and processing essential third-party disclosures, such as police and court requests.
  • Proactively monitoring national guidance to help us update our compliance policies.
  • Keeping our team running smoothly through essential administrative duties, such as triaging mailboxes, validating ID, tracking request progress, and maintaining our records management systems.

About you

We are looking for a proactive, tech-savvy team player with a desire to continue learning and developing skills in Information Governance. You should be someone who can navigate complex situations with their own initiative, exercise discretion, and foster great working relationships.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • A good level of literacy and numeracy, ideally educated to GCSE level C or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English.
  • An understanding of confidentiality, security principles, and relevant legislation like the DPA 2018, GDPR, and FOI.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to explain complex or specialist issues clearly to a wide range of people.
  • Strong organisational abilities, including time management, multitasking, and the ability to prioritise conflicting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with digital hardware, software, and task management systems like spreadsheets and CRM tools.
  • A strong commitment to addressing equality and diversity issues within your practice.
