Speech and Language Advisory Teacher
The advisory/outreach service for Autism/Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) works closely with schools, the SEND Team and other multi-agency teams, families and other partners across Kingston and Richmond. The service supports schools by providing advice on strategies, modelling and resources to help meet the needs of this group of learners.
About the role
Working under the direction of the Head of Service, the Speech and Language Advisory Teacher collaborates closely with Speech and Language Therapists, the broader advisory team, and families to help mainstream primary school staff effectively support pupils with speech, language, and communication needs. Core expected functions encompass coordinating placement processes and the annual Speech and Language Education Placements (SALEP) meeting, delivering specialist advisory support through a graduated approach, and recommending curriculum adaptations to optimise learning environments. Additionally, the role involves conducting pupil assessments, setting targeted intervention goals, modeling exemplary teaching strategies, and delivering training to upskill school-based professionals. You will manage the schedule for school visits, write detailed progress reports for reviews, and look at data trends to help improve our services and policies.
In this role, you will help mainstream primary staff gain the confidence and independence to use evidence-based communication strategies. You will also help create accessible, supportive classroom environments that lead to measurable improvements in pupils' social, learning, and developmental progress. Additionally, you will foster seamless collaboration between advisory teams, healthcare providers, and families, while ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality assessment reports and reviews across all primary settings.
About you
The successful candidate will have:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
- Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families. Advocating the voices of those we are working with.
- Educated to degree level with an appropriate professional qualification in education.
- Proven evidence of continuing professional development.
- Strong organisational abilities including: time management, problem-solving and multitasking.
