Youth Support Worker

As a Youth Support Workers you will deliver sessions for young people aged 9-19 years old at one or more Richmond Youth Centres Hampton Youth Zone, Whitton Youth Zone and The Hive in Ham.

We are hiring a number of Youth Support Workers to:

  • 1x3 hour post at Whitton Youth Zone, TW2 7JX
  • 2x 9 hour posts and 1x 6 hour post at Hampton Youth Zone, TW12 3RN
  • 1x 3 hour post at The Hive Youth Centre, TW10 7NE

The Youth Service provides support, information, advice, guidance and activities to support the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development of young people aged 9 - 19 years old. The Youth Service is a universal service which uses befriending and activities as a means to build long lasting positive and supportive relationships.

Due to a skills gap within the team we are particularly interested in candidates who have qualifications or backgrounds in gym or sports.

Basic starting hourly rate  £16.18 per hour. Any advertised full-time equivalent salary will be calculated pro rata.

About the role

The post holder will be required to effectively provide young people centred youth work activities using a range of youth work approaches that will include mentoring, one to one support, group-work programmes, holiday activities, educational trips and visits.

As a Youth Support Worker, you will be required to effectively provide support, advice and guidance to young people aged 9 - 19 years old, oversee positive, developmental and diversionary activities during the youth sessions, and support the Lead Youth Worker with duties that improve the youth provision.

If you are an individual who relates well to young people and are passionate about wanting to help and support them on their journey to adulthood, please apply. Life skills and experience are just as important as work experience for this role, as you may wish to utilise your sporting, artistic, cooking or musical skills or perhaps your communication or motivational skills to engage with young people and be a positive influence on their lives.

About you

  • Childcare/Youth Work/Play work qualification NVQ 2 or equivalent in relevant field is desirable.
  • Experience of direct working with children/young people.
  • Experience of delivering services that value equality and diversity to a wide range of people with different cultural backgrounds & needs.
  • Ability to work 1:1 and use your own initiative and to make use of advice /supervision.
  • Ability to contribute to a programme of activities, which is safe and stimulating for children and young people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of children, families and professionals.
