Youth Support Worker (Casual)
The salary shown is Full Time Equivalent, however this is a casual position paid at an hourly rate.
We are hiring Youth Support Workers to provide cover and support busy periods with Richmond Youth Service. As a Youth Support Worker you will deliver sessions for young people aged 9-19 years old at one or more Richmond Youth Centres.
The Youth Service provides support, information, advice, guidance and activities to support the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development of young people aged 9 - 19 years old. The Youth Service is a universal service which uses befriending and activities as a means to build long lasting positive and supportive relationships.
Basic starting hourly rate £16.15 plus a top up paid annual leave contribution (instead of annual leave days)
About the role
The post holder will be required to effectively provide young people centred youth work activities using a range of youth work approaches that will include mentoring, one to one support, group-work programmes, holiday activities, educational trips and visits.
As a Youth Support Worker will be required to effectively:
- Provide support, advice and guidance to young people aged 9 - 19 years old.
- Oversee positive, developmental and diversionary activities during the youth sessions.
- Support the Lead Youth Worker with duties that improve the youth provision.

About you
If you are an individual who relates well to young people and are passionate about wanting to help and support them on their journey to adulthood, please apply. Life skills and experience are just as important as work experience for this role, as you may wish to utilise your sporting, artistic, cooking or musical skills or perhaps your communication or motivational skills to engage with young people and be a positive influence on their lives.
Qualifications:
- Childcare/Youth Work/Play work qualification NVQ 2 or equivalent in relevant field is desirable.
Skills and experience:
- Experience of direct working with children/young people.
- Experience of delivering services that value equality and diversity to a wide range of people with different cultural backgrounds & needs.
- Ability to work 1:1 and use your own initiative and to make use of advice /supervision.
- Ability to contribute to a programme of activities, which is safe and stimulating for children and young people.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of children, families and professionals.
